Parasite Test

GetTested’s Parasite Test is an immunochromatographic rapid test designed for the qualitative detection of Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, and Cryptosporidium parvum in human stool samples. These three pathogens are among the most common causes of intestinal infections and may contribute to gastrointestinal symptoms of varying severity.

Entamoeba histolytica
Entamoeba histolytica is an anaerobic protozoan parasite that infects humans and other primates. Infection may be asymptomatic or cause severe conditions such as amoebic dysentery or liver abscess.

Giardia lamblia
Giardia lamblia is a protozoan that often causes diarrhea and malabsorption. Infection can appear in both acute and chronic forms and is particularly problematic in individuals with weakened immune systems.

Cryptosporidium parvum
Cryptosporidium parvum is an intracellular protozoan that causes cryptosporidiosis, a diarrheal disease that can spread through contaminated water. The parasite is resistant to many disinfectants, making it difficult to eliminate in certain environments.

The Parasite Test is based on an immunochromatographic method for the simultaneous detection of antigens from E. histolytica, G. lamblia, and C. parvum. The analysis is performed on fresh or recently collected stool samples, providing qualitative results within approximately 15 minutes.

Each test kit includes a test cassette, a sample collection tube with extraction buffer, and instructions for use. Additional laboratory equipment, such as specimen containers and a timer, is required but not included in the kit.

For a more comprehensive evaluation of digestive and intestinal health, the Parasite Test can be complemented with laboratory analyses that assess nutrient absorption and gut function.
Examples include tests for amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, as parasitic infections can affect nutrient status.
