HbA1c Diabetes Test – for the assessment of long-term blood glucose levels

HbA1c, also known as glycated hemoglobin, is used to estimate the average blood glucose level over the past three months. Since the lifespan of a red blood cell is approximately four months, the HbA1c value provides a stable reflection of the body’s glucose balance over time.

GetTested’s HbA1c Test analyzes a blood sample for the qualitative detection of glycated hemoglobin. The test is used as an aid in assessing whether glucose levels are within or above the expected reference range.

HbA1c and its significance

Hemoglobin binds to glucose in the blood, and the proportion of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) reflects the average glucose concentration. Elevated HbA1c values may indicate that blood glucose has remained high over an extended period, which is relevant when evaluating diabetes-related conditions.
